Two armed men caught workers of a security company by surprise when they hijacked the security van making its rounds collecting bets amounting to RM1.5 million from 4D outlets, here, yesterday before torching the van.

In the 5.40pm incident, the security van stopped at a 4D outlet in Jalan Meru, here.

One of the three guards manning the van stepped out to collect money from the premises.

Suddenly, two armed men ambushed the two guards in the van and forced them to drive the van to Taman Eng Ann, 2.5km away, before taking the money and burning the van.

Klang Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Shukor Sulong said the robbers escaped with three sacks containing RM1 million.

They left behind about RM500,000, some of which had been burnt.

“The two guards waiting in the van were ambushed by the two men.

“They forced one of the guards to sit in the back of the van and made the other drive the van to Taman Eng Ann and stop in Lorong Tiong.

“A silver Proton Waja, which was believed to have followed the security van, stopped near the van.

“Three other men stepped out and removed the three sacks of money in the van,” he said at the location.

Shukor said after transferring the money into their car, the robbers, aged between 20 and 30, ordered the guards out.

They doused the van with a liquid, believed to be petrol, before setting it on fire.

He said the suspects also took away one of the guard’s revolvers.

“The two guards suffered minor injuries.

Police are now hunting for the five robbers.
