KUALA LUMPUR:Thieves made off with an automated teller machine from a bank in Taman Midah, Cheras, here, early yesterday, which had been loaded several hours earlier.
The cash machine, which was prised open and emptied of RM316,000, was found in a bush some 10km away in Jalan Ampang.
Closed-circuit television cameras at the Maybank branch in Taman Midah showed at least three masked men entering the ATM section and carting off the machine at 3.30am.
Police believe there were at least two others waiting in a van or a lorry outside the bank.
The theft was discovered minutes later when policemen on patrol noticed two smashed glass doors and went to investigate.
Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohan Singh said the bank’s alarm did not go off, which gave the thieves a head start.
Mohan added that a team had been formed to investigate the theft and that they hoped to get several leads soon.
He urged those with information on the case to call the Cheras district police headquarters at 03-92840083 or the nearest police station immediately.
