“Magnasphere’s high security contacts have always been designed to deter tampering that can be achieved on standard and even balanced and biased magnetic alarm contacts, but what also caught my attention is the new bracket mounting configuration. The L2C Series of concealed sensors meet and exceed UL634 Level 2 High Security Standards. Features include: installed in 1-inch diameter hole or standard ANSI door cut out.; ANSI Model A retrofit/upgrade to old 2757/67 BMS contacts; resists permanent contact welding (power surges, stun guns, lightning); and single and dual alarm contact functionality. Another feature that impressed me was the patented removal (pry) tamper bracket and switch. magnasphere.com”

Two armed men caught workers of a security company by surprise when they hijacked the security van making its rounds collecting bets amounting to RM1.5 million from 4D outlets, here, yesterday before torching the van.

In the 5.40pm incident, the security van stopped at a 4D outlet in Jalan Meru, here.

One of the three guards manning the van stepped out to collect money from the premises.

Suddenly, two armed men ambushed the two guards in the van and forced them to drive the van to Taman Eng Ann, 2.5km away, before taking the money and burning the van.

Klang Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Shukor Sulong said the robbers escaped with three sacks containing RM1 million.

They left behind about RM500,000, some of which had been burnt.

“The two guards waiting in the van were ambushed by the two men.

“They forced one of the guards to sit in the back of the van and made the other drive the van to Taman Eng Ann and stop in Lorong Tiong.

“A silver Proton Waja, which was believed to have followed the security van, stopped near the van.

“Three other men stepped out and removed the three sacks of money in the van,” he said at the location.

Shukor said after transferring the money into their car, the robbers, aged between 20 and 30, ordered the guards out.

They doused the van with a liquid, believed to be petrol, before setting it on fire.

He said the suspects also took away one of the guard’s revolvers.

“The two guards suffered minor injuries.

Police are now hunting for the five robbers.

An ATM was stolen in KL, Malaysia with thieves making off with RM316,000 in the machine! Seems like the bank’s alarms did not go off. An inside job? Poor maintenance?

KUALA LUMPUR:Thieves made off with an automated teller machine from a bank in Taman Midah, Cheras, here, early yesterday, which had been loaded several hours earlier.

The cash machine, which was prised open and emptied of RM316,000, was found in a bush some 10km away in Jalan Ampang.

Closed-circuit television cameras at the Maybank branch in Taman Midah showed at least three masked men entering the ATM section and carting off the machine at 3.30am.
Police believe there were at least two others waiting in a van or a lorry outside the bank.

The theft was discovered minutes later when policemen on patrol noticed two smashed glass doors and went to investigate.

Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohan Singh said the bank’s alarm did not go off, which gave the thieves a head start.
Mohan added that a team had been formed to investigate the theft and that they hoped to get several leads soon.

He urged those with information on the case to call the Cheras district police headquarters at 03-92840083 or the nearest police station immediately.

PETALING JAYA: It’s now near impossible to keep your valuables and important documents in banks.Banks have run out of safe deposit boxes, with those applying for the facility told to “wait indefinitely”.The problem has been made more acute with many people buying gold bars and jewellery to cash in on the rising price of the commodity and looking for places to keep them safe.Checks by The Star with several banks revealed that the waiting list for safe deposit boxes had run into the hundreds, with a Maybankbranch officer in Kuala Lumpur saying there were 700 people on the list.“I am sorry, sir, but we have no more boxes to offer. We can’t give you a timeframe of when you will be able to get one,” said a bank officer .Association of Banks Malaysia (ABM) executive director Chuah Mei Linsaid the waiting list for safe deposit boxes depended on the suitability of the bank premises in terms of location, size and security.“Banks also have to determine if there is a requisite demand for such services within the community they serve,” she said.Due to the problem, many people are resorting to buying safes to store their valuables. An employee of a popular DIY shop in SS2 said more safes were being bought by customers, who included those operating businesses.

“I can sell about 10 to 20 safes each week.

“I have many people walking in to look for a good, dependable safe,” he added.

Depending on the size and make, the prices of safes start from RM500 to RM3,000 and above.

The rental charge for safe deposit boxes by banks are according to size.

A shoebox-sized box is usually rented out for about RM200 a year.

Due to the inavailability of the safe deposit boxes in banks, many private companies have sprouted up over the past few years offering the service.

One company specialising in such services, the Malaysian Royal Safe Deposit Boxes (MSDB), said it was faced with increasing requests for safe deposit boxes.

“We have many walk-in customers daily and have to add new boxes due to increasing demand,” said a spokesman who identified himself as Dhaliwal.

Most private companies offer insurance coverage of up to RM100,000 per box, compared with about RM10,000 by banks.

The private firms usually charge higher rentals than banks for safe deposit boxes, with rent of RM290 for a standard-sized box a year.

Another such company official said the service it offered was better than banks.

“We are open round the clock throughout the week while banks operate during office hours and are closed during weekends.”
